Participate in the LGBT buying power survey

Community Marketing, Inc., San Diego LGBT Weekly and more than 120 other LGBT business partners have launched a survey to quantify the buying power of the LGBT community.

For the last four years, a worldwide survey has been done to help understand the buying attitudes, intended purchases and other data about lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people. Last year, more than 45,000 LGBT people from 100 countries participated in the confidential online survey.

To make sure San Diegans are represented well and are not dwarfed by the participation of the larger cities in California, you can participate in the survey by going to LGBTSurvey.com or LGBTweekly.com.

Why participate? Quantifying the buying power of our community helps to move LGBT equality forward in a myriad of ways.

For example, LGBT people travel more, own more homes and cars, spend more on electronics and have the largest amount of disposable income of any niche market. Critically, LGBT dollars go to products, services and destinations that recognize our unique buying preferences, offer differentiated value and acknowledge through advertising the importance of the LGBT consumer.

The survey helps many companies better understand that LGBT consumers are a critical component of their consumer base. This often leads to the establishment of LGBT positive employee policies like same-sex partner benefits including insurance, family leave and relocation expenses. Positive LGBT policies often lead to the establishment of LGBT centered employee groups.
