Miley Cyrus launches anti-homelessness, pro-LGBT ‘Happy Hippie Foundation’

Miley Cyrus officially launched her non-profit organization The Happy Hippie today, with a mission to rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.

Cyrus launched the organization with a video of her and Joan Jett performing  “Different.” Posting on Facebook Cyrus wrote, “Officially launching The Happy Hippie Foundation today with ‪#‎HappyHippiePresents‬: Backyard Sessions! Watch the full video of Joan Jett and I performing “Different” now and donate to help us raise funds to create digital support groups for LGBT youth and their families ‪#‎HappyHippie‬.”

Further Facebook videos will be forthcoming and  will prompt viewers to donate, and the funds will be used to help create digital support groups for vulnerable kids and their families—an attempt to help prevent some of the 40 percent of homeless youth who identify as LGBT from being rejected and running away in the first place. “I’m fighting for people I don’t know,” Cyrus told Out. “but it’s also a fight for people I do know, and people I’m close to and love.”
