SAN DIEGO – Teams are now forming for the 25th annual AIDS Walk & Run San Diego, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27.
“Teams are a vital part of the fun and the fundraising at AIDS Walk San Diego,” said Ian Johnson, The San Diego LGBT Community Center’s director of special events. AIDS Walk is a program of The Center. “Last year, teams helped raise 70 percent of the total funds raised. It’s also a really fun way to participate and truly make a difference for people impacted by HIV/AIDS.”
Teams can range from two members to more than 1,000 walkers. Those teams that register 10 or more participants or raise $1,000 by Monday, Sept. 22 will also earn the highly-coveted yellow shoe placard with the team name emblazoned on it. Team members can participate in the Walk, the 10K run or the new 5K fun run. Your team can also compete for Best Team Theme and also for the Best Team T-shirts. Start your planning now!
To provide additional support for teams, AIDS Walk will host special team leader workshops, which are a great way to meet fellow team leaders and learn about online fundraising and team recruitment. Participation in team leader workshops is optional, but recommended.
Upcoming workshops will take place at The Center, 3909 Centre St. on the following dates:
• Thursday, July 31 8-9 am and 6-7 pm
• Thursday, Aug. 14 8-9 am and 6-7 pm
• Thursday, Sept. 9 8-9 am and 6-7 pm
To register for the workshops, please contact Johnson at (619) 692-2077, ext. 247 or ataidswalk@thecentersd.org. More information is available at www.AIDSWalkSD.org.
