Gay Polo League to play in Victory Cup Fall Classic polo match on Governors Island

WELLINGTON, Fla. – In little more than a month, the Gay Polo League (GPL) will make the journey to Governors Island, just 800 yards from Lower Manhattan, to compete Saturday, Sept. 23 in the signature Victory Cup Fall Classic Polo Match. The GPL team, comprised of Chip McKenney, Phil Tremo, Severance MacLaughlin and Brandon Van Loon, will battle a number of other high-caliber teams in hopes of claiming the victory during one of the most exciting and festive social events of the year below the iconic Manhattan skyline.
In 2015, GPL was victorious in the Victory Cup Polo Match held in Austin, Texas that year.
“GPL is honored and excited to have been selected as a participating team in this year’s Victory Cup,” said Chip McKenney, Founder and President of the Gay Polo League. “We are looking forward to making our New York City debut as a part of this fun-filled event and hope to come home with another Victory Cup win.”
Over its 14-year history, the Victory Cup has taken place in picturesque venues across the nation, but 2017 will be its first outing in New York City. Not just a polo match, the day will include something for all tastes – fashion, farm to table food, wine and spirits, luxury vehicles, a classic car show, food trucks and a children’s’ playground. Dozens of chefs, restaurants, farms, vineyards, distilleries and breweries from the New York area and beyond will be providing tastings at the event for guests and riders, alike, adding to what some have dubbed “The Best Party in New York.”
