Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former president Bill Clinton, spoke out on behalf of gay marriage at a recent benefit for the social network-based charity Friendfactor in New York City.

Clinton urged attendees, including Kelly Ripa, Kristen Bell and Andy Cohen, to get involved in their online communities to help push legislation that would guarantee equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals. With husband Marc Mezvinsky at her side, Clinton stated, “I certainly believe that all of my friends, as Marc and I did, should have the right to marry their best friends.”

Chelsea Clinton continued by saying, “I certainly believe that those of us who are straight cannot expect our gay friends to do this on their own. And I certainly expect our straight friends to help us achieve that for all New Yorkers, for all Americans, and for all the children that at least Marc and I hope to have someday.”
