Organizers have estimated nearly 80,000 people showed up Saturday to the San Diego Women’s March and walked together in peace in solidarity with the Women’s March in Washington, D.C.
The march started at Civic Center Plaza next to San Diego City Hall, and ended on the steps of the San Diego County Administration Center about a mile away.
Protesters sang the Star Spangled Banner, participated in a drum circle and heard from speakers before beginning the march at 10:30 a.m.
Elected officials including Rep. Susan Davis, Assemblymembers Todd Gloria and Lorena Gonzales and Sen. Toni Atkins joined the marchers as well as City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez.
“Proud to join with women from #SanDiego & the country in DC for the discussion & fight for women’s issues, equality for all,” tweeted Davis.
“We could not be more proud or more inspired by our San Diego Community today! Thank you to all who participated and kept it peaceful,” said the organizers of the march through Facebook.
I was there. The crowd was YUGE!
The non alternative truth is…. Crowd-size does matter.
