Chula Vista Police have released photos of the attacker of a gay man at a trolley stop in hopes someone can identify him.
The victim, who is in his 30s, was aboard a bus at the H Street Trolley stop in Chula Vista in March, 2015. He told police the man kept staring at him aboard the bus and video surveillance photos show that.
The attacker stood up and made some derogatory comments about the victim’s sexual orientation, for which the gay man said nothing. When he exited the bus, the man was knocked down and beaten.
The victim suffered a fractured eye socket and still has pain and headaches from the action. He has had several surgeries. Chula Vista Police Lt. Fritz Reber said the victim recently “became comfortable” with police releasing info about the attack in hopes of someone identifying him.
The attacker appears to be either white or Latino, 5’8″, medium build, wearing a red shirt, and is in his early 20s, according to Chula Vista Police. Although surveillance camera showed people walking around the men during the fight, no one stopped to help the victim, who was later taken to a hospital.
Police said if the attack has something to do with the victim’s sexual orientation, it could be a hate crime as well as felony assault.
