It began as a small, simple YouTube campaign to support gay youth in the wake of devastating teen suicides; but now, gay activist Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” video campaign has exploded into the mainstream.
On Tuesday night, a video created by the Google Chrome team compiling messages of support from countless individuals, community leaders, kids, parents and celebrities was shown on primetime during Fox’s latest episode of Glee. With clips from the likes of Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway and Savage himself, the 91-second video features some of the most inspirational moments caught on camera for the YouTube anti-bullying and LGBT support campaign.
Savage created the YouTube project back in September with the hope of soliciting videos from anyone willing to provide a positive message of hope to teens struggling with bullying, discrimination or social rejection due to perceived or actual sexual orientation.
Since then, the project has gained spectacular momentum and contributions from pop stars, politicians, and even President Barack Obama.
