San Diego County Library hosts The Human Library

Human LibraryThe La Mesa Library Branch (8074 Allison Ave.) of the San Diego County Library will host the Human Library Nov. 5 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. Visitors to the La Mesa Library will be able to ‘check out’ a living book. The event will host several volunteers who visitors can interact with, ask questions to, and engage with in an authentic and respectful dialogue.

The Human Library began in Denmark in 2000 and has now gained international recognition. The intention was to be able to share personal stories between individuals and open minds to embracing differences through knowledge and shared experience. The Human Library is dedicated to including all aspects of life, and so requires that at least five of its eight pillars are presented at any Human Library program being held. The pillars are comprised of groups like sexuality, religion, social status, health, and many more.

The Human Library at La Mesa will feature community members who come from all walks of life. The San Diego County Library is dedicated to inclusion and diversity and is a proud Safe Space for LGBTQIA members of our community. Their purpose is to inform, educate, and inspire everyone in the community, and we are proud to be able to host The Human Library at the La Mesa Library Branch.
