The LGBT Academy of Recording Arts will host the 7th Annual OUTMUSIC Awards show at Irving Plaza in New York City on May 23. This year’s show will celebrate the past 20 years of music history and showcase the achievements of gay and lesbian contributors to the music industry.
While originally scheduled to take place in December, the OUTMUSIC awards were postponed due to financial concerns. Fortunately, an outpouring of support in the wake of the show’s cancellation made it possible for this month’s event to take shape – and now nominees are gearing up for the opportunity to take the stage and vie for the highest honor in the LGBT music industry.
Diedra Meredith, chairwoman and CEO of OUTMUSIC, expressed her gratitude towards and support of openly gay recording artists who “have exemplified courage to come out as an effort to erase the stigma associated with being openly gay in the music & entertainment industry. Meredith explained in a press release for the event that “we continue alongside these entertainment greats and our mission to bring awareness to these artists’ contributions…and documenting the success each has achieved that would, often time, be overlooked.”
The 7th Annual OUTMUSIC awards show will be hosted by Comedienne Tammy Peay and feature special appearances by Jonathan D. Lovitz and the cast of Logo’s “The Setup Squad,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Sahara Davenport and cast members from Logo’s “The A-List.”
Tickets for the event are now on sale, and a full list of nominees can be found online at outmusicawards.com.
