SAN DIEGO — Thursday, the Engage San Diego Action Fund, a new 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to enhancing civic engagement and social justice in underserved San Diego communities through issue education and public policy advocacy, announced its first ever candidate endorsements. The Engage San Diego Action Fund supports local candidates who strongly believe in reflective democracy and are dedicated to leading the movement for social and economic justice throughout the region.
For the Nov. 8 general election, the Engage San Diego Action Fund has endorsed
  • Georgette Gomez for the City of San Diego, Council District 9
  • Rick Shea for the County Board of Education, District 5

In a statement released Thursday the Engage San Diego Action Fund said, “We are enthused by Ms. Gomez’s support of increasing voter-participation through city-sponsored election awareness campaigns and her strong support of Measures K and L, which ensure that all city of San Diego candidate elections (mayor, city attorney, and city council), citizen initiatives, and referendum are decided in November general elections. We look forward to Mr. Shea’s dedication to supporting the public education system by offering all students college and career prep courses to prepare them for entering the 21st century workforce and working to make sure that our schools are educating students about the importance of civic participation and voter registration.”
