Felicity Huffman was nominated for an Oscar for playing Bree, a neurotic male-to-female transsexual who drives cross-country with the son she fathered but never knew. As amazing as the performance was, the film itself is more than one great impression. It’s also an enormously sweet and moving story about the relationship between a parent and a child, and as Bree’s troubled son, Kevin Zegers is every bit of a match for Huffman. It’s funny, subversive, and unforgettable, and if you haven’t seen Transamerica, do so this week.
