SAN DIEGO – The 11th annual ArtWalk @ Liberty Station will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 14 in San Diego. It will be a weekend full of art, food, live entertainment and fun for residents and visitors of all ages. This yearly art festival is produced by the same team that brings Mission Federal ArtWalk to San Diego’s Little Italy each year in April.
“ArtWalk @ Liberty Station is a free weekend long event that creates a platform for artists to showcase their work. The festival brings together families, art lovers, collectors, residents, visitors and more to one of San Diego’s most loved arts and culture districts,” said Sandi Cottrell, ArtWalk San Diego’s managing director. “The beautiful park-like setting and rose garden at Liberty Station’s Ingram Plaza, provides a scenic backdrop for artists to showcase their work. We are looking forward to putting on another successful ArtWalk @ Liberty Station this year for our 11th year anniversary.”
ArtWalk @ Liberty Station will feature the works of over 200 artists from around the globe. The art on display will showcase every medium from painting, sculpture and glass work to fine jewelry and photography. Attendees will also be able to enjoy live music, KidsWalk which offers interactive art for kids, delicious street food options and a wine and beer pavilion in a beautiful al fresco setting.
New to the festival this year are multiple interactive art exhibitions that attendees can participate in. Local San Diego artist, Nan Coffey, will be painting live during the event—creating an exclusive ArtWalk @ Liberty Station mural. Attendees will have the opportunity to become a part of Nan’s “Inclusion Art” by sharing their stories with her. Nan will create the iconography of the stories into her painting—connecting hundreds of people and their stories together on a large scale canvas. Another artist that will be interacting with attendees is James Yuransky. Referring to his art as Zedism, participants will be able to paint small multi-sided geometric objects that come together to create a 3D masterpiece. Artist & Craftsman Supply will provide an interactive art activity for all, incorporating paint and paper in a unique project about nature.
Making its first appearance at ArtWalk @ Liberty Station, will be The Butterfly Effect—an interactive element where four painted butterflies will be hidden throughout the venue to give attendees the opportunity to find them and winners will be able to select a charity of their choice to receive a donation. Attendees will be able to locate the butterflies using clues from ArtWalk San Diego’s social media. The Butterfly Effect also includes a large butterfly wing backdrop that will be stationed at the festival, providing a social media perfect photo opportunity.
ArtWalk @ Liberty Station will be held at Liberty Station’s Ingram Plaza, 2645 Historic Decatur Road (corner of Historic Decatur and Roosevelt Road). The fine art festival will run from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on August 13 and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on August 14 and attendance is free.
