N.C. Gov. McCrory may join Trump on stage during rally in state capitol

RALEIGH — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will be in Raleigh on Tuesday evening, the candidate’s second visit to North Carolina in less than a month. Will Gov. Pat McCrory join his chosen presidential candidate on stage, or just raise money for Trump like last time?

Gov. McCrory has twice pledged to support Trump, and Sen. Richard Burr has endorsed Trump as well. The Democratic challengers of both McCrory and Burr — Roy Cooper and Deborah Ross — are joining President Obama and Secretary Clinton at a rally in Charlotte on Tuesday, so it is likely that McCrory and Burr will join Trump in Raleigh.

“While many Republican leaders race to distance themselves from Trump’s hate-mongering, Gov. McCrory is doubling down on his support for Trump,” said Gerrick Brenner, executive director of Progress NC Action. “The governor has once again chosen the side of extremism and demagoguery over genuine leadership, and North Carolina deserves better.”
