The GoFundMe campaign for the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting reached $1 million faster than any in gofundme history. Late Monday the fund had reached nearly $2,500,000.
The fund was set up by Equality Florida, a LGBTQ rights nonprofit with offices in several Florida cities including Orlando.
The GoFundMe campaign homepage states: “We are working with the National Center for Victims of Crime, which deployed funds in both the Chattanooga and Aurora shootings, to distribute the contributions from this GoFundMe page ( http://nationalcompassionfund.org/faq/).
“This organization offers support to communities affected by mass casualty events in the form of the National Compassion Fund, and ensure that every penny donated will be correctly and quickly dispersed to the victims and families.
“We ask all victims to call this hotline to begin this process: VictimConnect Resource Center 855-4-Victim (855-484-2846) http://victimconnect.org/”
Nadine Smith, co-founder and CEO of Equality Florida, posted on the group’s Facebook, “… through our grief and through our tears, what remains absolutely constant is our unshakable resolve that we will uproot the bigotry, the fear and the hatred that is at the core of this horror we are enduring…that is our pledge, to be unwavering…Love Wins.”
