House LGBT Caucus commemorates victims of Orlando shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C.– The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus today is commemorating the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting by asking Members of Congress to wear rainbow lapel pins in solidarity with the LGBT community.  Sadly, many public leaders and media sources are ignoring that this attack specifically targeted a gathering place for the LGBT community; a place where LGBT people can feel community and fellowship and celebrate their identities.

“It is outrageous that LGBT Americans continue to be the targets of such horrific hatred and violence in 2016.  You cannot look at the news today and conclude that members of the LGBT community have full equality in this country.  We don’t,” said Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01).  “I’m grateful that so many of my colleagues are demonstrating their support for LGBT Americans tonight through this show of solidarity.”

The ribbons will be available to any member—Republican or Democrat—who wishes to show solidarity with the victims, survivors, and everyone impacted by this attack.
