“Pride events and the modern day LGBT civil rights movement can trace their origins back to the Stonewall Riots of 1969 when our community bravely fought back against discrimination,” said San Diego Pride executive director, Stephen Whitburn. “We commemorate that history every year by kicking off Pride weekend with the Spirit of Stonewall Rally where we honor our past, celebrate our current community leaders, and look forward to the challenges we have yet to overcome.”
