ATLANTA, Ga. – Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) announced that it will honor actress Kathryn Hahn with the “Ally for Equality” Award at the 29th Annual HRC Atlanta Gala Dinner & Auction this Saturday, April 30, 2016. HRC also announced that critically-acclaimed pop singer and songwriter Wrabel will perform at the event that raises critical funds in the fight for full LGBT equality.
“Kathryn Hahn is an incredibly gifted actress who uses her talent and her platform to raise awareness of the unique challenges LGBT people face in their daily lives,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Kathryn’s commitment to advancing equality for all LGBT people is why we are thrilled to welcome her to this year’s Atlanta Gala and honor her with the HRC Ally for Equality Award.”
The hilarious Hahn stars as Raquel Fein in the hit Amazon series, Transparent. She has also starred in Afternoon Delight, for which she earned a ‘Breakthrough Actor’ nomination for the 2013 Gotham Independent Film Awards. She is known for her roles in movies including Step-Brothers, Our Idiot Brother, Wanderlust, Tomorrowland, and Bad Moms, as well as the hit TV shows Crossing Jordan, Girls, Parks and Recreation, and more.
HRC’s Ally for Equality award recognizes the outstanding efforts of those who dedicate time, energy, spirit and wholehearted commitment to better the lives of LGBT people. This award is given to allies outside the LGBT community who stand up on behalf of equality for all Americans. Hahn has consistently used her voice to raise awareness of the challenges LGBT face and the fight for full LGBT equality, including in the successful fight for marriage equality. In thevideo released by HRC in 2014, Hahn – a mother of two – discusses her inability to explain to her children “why two people in love can’t get married or have access to the protections and rights of a legal marriage.”
HRC also announced that critically-acclaimed pop singer and songwriter Wrabel will perform at the event. When Wrabel’s first single “Sideways” was featured on iTunes, it was downloaded nearly half a million times and Nylon magazine said the song was, “stocked with the soulfulness of a Sia or Sam Smith, and a melodic pop DNA that throws back to icons like Paul Simon.” He has performed on various global platforms including Good Morning America, VH1’s Fashion Rocks and at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami alongside Dutch DJ Afrojack, who remixed Wrabel’s hit song “Ten Feet Tall.” Wrabel has written songs for Phillip Phillips, Adam Lambert, Will Young and Prince Royce and is consistently called upon by top producers in the music industry. BuzzFeed News named Wrabel’s “I Want You” as number 10 on it’s list of “The 30 Most Criminally Underrated Pop Songs Of 2015.”
The 29th Annual HRC Atlanta Gala Dinner & Auction has grown to be one of HRC’s largest annual dinners. This year’s theme, “Beyond Marriage, All Rights for All People,” takes its shape from the celebration of the recent success of marriage equality while focusing on HRC’s continued fight for full LGBT equality.
