Steve Miller Band
Steve Miller was a mainstay of the San Francisco music scene that upended American culture in the late ’60s. Then, in the ’70s, he crafted a brand of rock ‘n’ roll music that was polished, exciting and irresistible, and that has dominated radio through today. Hit followed hit: “The Joker,” “Livin in the USA,” “Take the Money and Run,” “Rock’n Me,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Jet Airliner,” “Jungle Love,” and “Abracadabra” among them.

Flesh and The Devil (1926)
A Fox Theatre Film Series Screening featuring Russ Peck on the organ. Greta Garbo was one of MGM’s most shining stars of the late Silent Era, and this romantic melodrama both lifted her to superstardom and initiated her torrid off-screen romance with co-star John Gilbert. A true dramatic classic of the Silent Era, selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in 2006. San Diego Symphony does not appear on this program.

Bill Bellamy
Using his experiences growing up in Newark, Bill Bellamy started doing stand-up while he was a student at Rutgers University. Bellamy quickly discovered how much he enjoyed making people laugh, and began honing his skills at small comedy clubs around the country and was soon making waves in the New York clubs like The Improv, The Comic Strip, and at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

Madama Butterfly
Hope, devotion, and betrayal find their fateful and desperate home in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Amidst the cherry blossoms of Nagasaki, a young woman makes a stand to support herself as a geisha after her disgraced father takes his life. Fate intervenes and brings her an American Naval officer and she falls desperately in love. Not aware she is just a dalliance, she believes they are married and renounces her religion as he sails away promising to return.

Bill Rastetter: Street Art Reinterpreted
Inspired by the relationship between art and activism expressed in graffiti on the streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina, photographer Bill Rastetter sought to create a broader spectrum of experience for the viewer by “mashing up” two separate images to create each of his final pieces. Also included in the mashups are overlaid images from works by well-known artists such as Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Federico Botero, among others, all displayed at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires.
