West Hollywood residents have been calling and writing to their city hall to ask for a street to be named after actress and AIDS activist Elizabeth Taylor, who died recently at age 79.
Taylor, a major early force in AIDS fundraising, spent time at West Hollywood spots, including the Abbey, where she sipped shots of tequila.
L.A. Weekly reported, “West Hollywood City Council members – four out of five of whom are gay – have historically loved voting for official bans and proclamations, beating other metropolises to the punch on a variety of issues. Now they have a chance to do something truly deserved and something residents very much want.”
To date, there has not yet been any formal discussion among city leaders.
