San Diego IndieFest founders put a modern family twist on a Christmas classic (VIDEO)

SAN DIEGO – Two weeks ago recording artists and founders of San Diego’s IndieFest, Danielle LoPresti and Alicia Champion released a Christmas song that immediately received worldwide attention. The song, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus features LoPresti on vocals complemented by an eleven instrument band.

However, what is getting all the attention is the music video to the song. The video stars real life couple Champion and LoPresti with their four year old son, Xander who the couple adopted after taking him in as a foster child two days after he was born.

To date this is the first ever holiday music video that features a same-sex couple in a family setting. Actress Annika Marks from the hit show The Fosters on ABC Family praised the video on Facebook, posting “They (Danielle and Alicia) have the kind of love that novels and classic holiday songs are written about”. The Fosters, which is produced in part by Jennifer Lopez, is a family drama that centers on a San Diego lesbian couple and their blend of biological, adoptive and foster children. The show was just renewed for a fourth season which LoPresti and Champion both agree is so important to continue sharing the message of same-sex families like their video. LoPresti, who is widely known in San Diego and has previously shared the stage with artists such as Jamie Foxx with her band, Danielle LoPresti and The Masses, explained why she and Champion decided on making the video.

“As a multi-racial, same-sex, foster-adoptive family, Alicia and I are always looking for examples of other families like ours to share with our son. After not finding a single holiday video of a family that resembled ours, we thought that since we have access to the resources, we would create something to fill that void. We feel it is an important time to show others that family love comes in all different colors and formations”.

The video has over 50,000 views on You Tube alone and has thousands of mentions on social media. Fans from around the United States, and as far as Ireland, Columbia, United Kingdom, Japan, and India have all shared positive comments on the video. GQ Magazine in Australia has even published an article on video.
