A leading metropolitan drama critic is led by an attractive production assistant into a recently discovered nineteenth-century theatre. There, the critic will film a television interview for a documentary on the actor John Wilkes Booth, who once acted on those very boards. The critic, F.F. Charnick, notorious for his venomous reviews, visibly warms to the classy elegance of the British P.A. But no sooner has he downed a glass of wine than he falls drugged and unconscious.

San Diego Symphony welcomes back guest conductor Edo de Waart after his impressive SDSO debut last winter stepping in for an indisposed Sir Neville Marriner. Now Mr. de Waart returns with a powerful one-two punch: Harmonielehre, John Adams’ dream-inspired landmark 1985 synthesis of minimalism and harmony, and the famous and majestic Violin Concerto of Ludwig van Beethoven. Violinist James Ehnes is the soloist for these three performances.

Made in America – Craft Icons of the 50 States

This exhibition of traditional and contemporary craft icons highlights distinctive materials, excellence of workmanship and makers’ imaginations. Exploring regional and national craft traditions, while expressing each state’s unique contribution to the richness of the American experience, this exhibition celebrates the variety of craft found in America. Exhibition objects will include: Sam Maloof’s signature Rocking Chair for California, Karen Karnes’ Lidded Jar for the salt glazed pottery tradition of Vermont, Henry Petzal Silver for a contemporary take on Massachusetts’ centuries-old silver-smith tradition, Dale Chihuly Glass for Washington State, a Louis Comfort Tiffany long-necked Glass Bottle for New York and a newly acquired Gee’s Bend Quilt for Alabama.
