DVD of the Week: ‘The Crying Game’

Jaye Davidson and Stephen Rea in ‘The Crying Game’

The King’s Speech is out this week on DVD, and if you missed it in the theater, and you need to see it so that you can say you saw it, then, well, do that. But as I’ve said before: Yawn.

So, instead, I suggest you do the opposite, and either see or re-see one of the most unpredictable and amazing films of the last 20 years, The Crying Game. Neil Jordan won an Oscar for the screenplay about an IRA member in hiding (Stephen Rea) who falls in love with a coy, beautiful bar singer (Jaye Davidson). Add two brilliant performances by Forest Whitaker and Miranda Richardson and one big secret, and you have a classic film about love, war and tucking.
