‘Gay Days’ comes to Munich’s Oktoberfest

Gay OktoberfestMunich’s famous Oktoberfest got underway on Saturday with a gay Bierfest on Sunday.

Thanks to ‘Gay Sunday’ – Oktoberfest is now a very gay affair. 8,000 gay (mostly men) poured into an enormous tent, dressed in gingham shirts and tight lederhosen – and danced the night away to the sound of brass bands and disco.

Gay Sunday is the second biggest gay event in Munich after the Christopher Street Day parade, and there are plenty of other pink parties throughout the three-week long festival which runs through Oct. 5.

Susanne Hoffmann, a 48-year-old waitress at the tent operated by Hacker-Pschorr, one of Munich’s six brewing giants, heaves eight glass litre mugs to a table of bearded men with a smile, reports Yahoo News.

“Gay Sunday is the best day of Oktoberfest,” she told AFP later. “There are no fistfights, everybody is nice and easy-going. And the music is better too.”

With a grin, she quoted a famous local drag queen who performs each year at the event: “A bissl Leder braucht a jeder” (Everybody needs a little leather).
