The recent video trend started by two Russian men who decided to film people’s reaction to them holding hands on the street has been taken up by a Portuguese couple who decided to test people’s reactions to them holding hands on the streets of Lisbon. The Lisbon experiment went well, proving that the Portuguese capital was one of the most accepting cities in the world.
The couple, Lorenzo and Pedro, then decided to take their experiment a stage further to the northern Portuguese city of Oporto. “The goal was to see how people react in ‘rougher’ parts of the country and even a football stadium when they see a gay couple holding hands and exchanging some affections,” they said.
“We were in various areas of Oporto: from the iconic tourist areas, through the most ‘dangerous’ places of the city.
“We even went to the Dragon Stadium on a day of a Oporto vs Estoril Praia football game, which is known to be not accepting of gay couples.
