Today, HRC President Chad Griffin appeared on MSNBC to discuss the ongoing situation in Rowan County, Ky., where County Clerk Kim Davis continues to flout the law by denying marriage licenses to couples.
“With the results of the United States Supreme Court decision in the Obergefell case, marriage licenses must be issued equally. That’s her job,” said Griffin. “She has to either do that or she has to step aside.”
On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined a petition from Davis for an emergency stay on a court order, requiring her to immediately start issuing marriage licenses to all eligible applicants, including same-sex couples. Despite the order, Davis has continued to deny licenses to couples.
