Documentary ‘A Gay Girl in Damascus: The Amina Profile’ now showing in theaters and on demand (VIDEO)

A Gay Girl in Damascus: The Amina Profile, a documentary about a false online relationship between a Canadian woman and a Syrian girl, premiered Friday in select theaters and through the on demand service SundanceNow Doc Club.

The documentary follows the story of Amina Arraf, a Syrian-American girl who got involved in an online relationship with a Canadian woman, Sandra Bagaria, during the Syrian uprising and recorded it on her blog, “A Gay Girl in Damascus.” The blog got an enormous following and triggered global concern when Arraf was allegedly abducted by the Syrian police. However, it was discovered that “Amina” was a fake profile created by an American man.

The film premiered at Sundance last January to strong reviews and will make its debut on television later this year through Sundance Channel Global.
