This Friday, July 17, in Balboa Park, from 12-6 p.m., the 2nd annual San Diego Trans* Pride Festival is happening for transgender and gender non-conforming people of all types to celebrate, support each other, build community and make new friends.
The event started last year to bring focus to San Diego’s growing and underserved transgender population and to create a non-corporate substance free event for the whole community.
This year Trans* Pride is being sponsored by the newly created Marsha P. Johnson Center for Gender Identity and Expression, an organization created to serve the needs of the Trans* community.
The term “Trans*” with the “*” indicates that it includes all forms of Trans* people including transgender, transsexual, genderqueer and the list goes on. This event is there to say, “we accept whatever your own identification may be, and welcome your diversity.”
Trans* Pride this year is about meeting other people in the community, bringing visibility for San Diego at large and providing support for those who need it.
There will be free food and potluck, games, and health and wellness practitioners to offer free advice and guidance, an energy visualization class, chair yoga and other tools to help Trans* people live better, happier lives.
The event will begin at noon, Friday July 17, near Quince Street and Sixth Avenue in Balboa Park and go until 6 p.m. when the march will begin. From 5-6 p.m. there will be an open-mic for Trans* voices to be heard; an opportunity to “give voice” to so many in our community who rarely have it. This is when Trans* people speak about their own experiences in their own voices. The march begins at 7 p.m. from Juniper and Balboa Drive.
Come and share food and community, listen to others stories or maybe share your own. This is San Diego’s Trans* Pride event, an event for the support and empowerment of thea Trans* community. All are welcome.
Thank you for making it Free so all may participate!!
