St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral to light up in rainbow colors in celebration of Pride

SAN DIEGO — St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral dean, The Very Reverend Penny Bridges has announced that St. Paul’s in San Diego will be the first cathedral in Southern California to celebrate LGBT Pride week by lighting the building in rainbow colors.

Kicking off Pride week, the Light Up The Cathedral For LGBT Pride celebration will be July 14 at 8 p.m. at St.Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, Fifth Avenue between Nutmeg and Olive Streets.

Among those joining The Very Reverend Penny Bridges and her choir and clergy will be Councilman Todd Gloria, City Commissioner Nicole Ramirez Murray and San Diego LGBT Pride Executive Director Stephen Whitburn.

Said Reverend Bridges, “We celebrate the recent SCOTUS decision and the recent Episcopal Church’s National Convention historic vote to sanction same-sex marriages in the church and change the liturgy to accommodate the new policy.”
