The Pride Health Challenge contestants have been transforming their lifestyle. As we approach Pride, Metabolic Direct and LGBT Weekly wanted to highlight each contestant’s journey. Below is the second Pride Health Challenge story. Here is Kurt’s journey:
I started this program “officially” on May 3rd, I was 237 pounds. The first month was a breeze, I lost 19 pounds and I was determined to lose 20 more pounds by Pride. Then I went on a business trip. Hotel conference food, no exercise, and cocktails with friends a couple of nights threw me off course. Immediately after returning home from my trip I realized that what you put in your body and lack of exercise greatly affects your mood. I had gained 4 pounds; I was ready to throw in the towel. I remained in my funk for 3 weeks, still remaining on the diet, and gaining and losing a pound here and there. But I wasn’t going to the gym. I attempted to hike Cowles Mountain, I didn’t quite make it to the top, but my attitude had changed, I was ready to get back in the game. On Tuesday June 23rd my weight was down to 216. Then another night out with friends happened. Unhealthy food, birthday cake, cocktails, all of that contributing once again to my lack of desire to remain on my diet. I gained another 1.5 pounds!
I’ve been struggling with my weight since I was a kid, I’ve never had a gym body, I probably never will. I’m not “that guy”
I bought some shorts for Pride that I was hoping to be able to fit into, but now it looks like I may have to go exchange them for a bigger size. This diet works, however there are so many ways I could be doing things differently to make it easier for me to stick to it. But once again, I’ve just never been that person. I’m staying on this program the best I can, but my motivation and desire has waned quite a bit. Everything is day to day now.
