The taste and appropriateness of the window displays at Pleasures & Treasures, an adult toy store located in North Park, are being called into question. Some neighbors and shoppers have complained that products displayed in the windows, as well as the dress displayed on the mannequins, go too far. There are adjacent stores that cater to families with children that seem to be the cause of the concern. Neighbors are asking that the store tone it down.
Pleasures & Treasures is known to push the envelope by displaying items that are not for consumption by those under 18 years old. The owner has taken a devil may care attitude to the neighbor concerns, “If you’re offended by the store then close your eyes, or walk on the other side of the street, or take a different route,” owner Peter Gieblewicz told 10News.
LGBT Weekly will reach out to the North Park Main Street Business Association to find out what they think of Gieblewicz’s statement. What do you think? Should the business owner be able to display anything he wants in his windows?
I didn’t know that sharia means ” family-friendly ” . I didn’t know. I’m American.
My previous comment will probably not pass sharia……….I mean editor ” moderation “.
Hillcrest has been closed down. I guess North Park is next.
I always thought signage with the “risque” and half-naked girls on the Fantasy Show Girls building at 3596 University Ave was ‘too much’ for street level eyes.
THANKS FOR SPEAKING UP, STELLA. The sign you described is heterosexual & misogynistic………….so it’s family-friendly & religiously conservative, Amen !
FROM THE TONE OF THE ARTICLE………….Obviously LGBT WEEKLY has decided to use the appearance of ” respectability ” to gain public approval. acceptance & support. That is a common ploy that has been used by Gay organizations, Gay media & some Gay people. It is unfortunate because it is in-genuine & pathetic. It’s being complicit in your own repression.
