ENCINITAS, Calif. — A San Dieguito Academy student has started a Care2 petition asking Principal Tim Hornig to install a gender-neutral bathroom. The petition has more than 16,000 signatures.
Milo Spearman says he started the Care2 petition because there is a growing population of transgender students at the school.
“Hopefully if the school creates a gender-neutral bathroom, transgender students will not have to make the choice between male and female bathrooms if they don’t feel comfortable with it,” Spearman told Care2.
In early May, a similar Care2 petition won. Jonas Valentine, a transgender student at Round Lake High School in Illinois, started a Care2 petition asking his school to create at least one gender-neutral bathroom. After Valentine gathered more than 200 signatures on his petition, the school responded by designating not one but four gender-neutral bathrooms.
“I’m very grateful that my high school has agreed to put in the gender-neutral bathrooms for current and any future transgender students,” Valentine told Care2 at the time. “But, I’m even more grateful for all of those who signed my Care2 petition and gave me full support from the get-go. I now not only feel more comfortable in the school, but being who I am.”
Spearman hopes his Care2 petition will have a similar impact.
“This would be an amazing and very helpful addition to the remodeling of our school,” Spearman writes on his petition. “We already have a handful of trans students may want to have this option. It would really help us out as a community and family.”
Can you tell us more about this? I’d love to find
out some additional information.
My son started this petition to have the school install a bathroom (or 2) that is single use. So many places here and around the country are putting these in. Most universities, high schools, businesses are in the process or already have. Our airport actually put in 12 of these. The White House put one in earlier this year as well. Another north county school has done the same thing and he thought it would be a great idea for his school to have this implemented into their school as they are actually doing construction over the next couple of year.
Providing “Gender-Neutral” bathrooms is not the right way to deal with those whom are victimized because they say they’re of a different gender. It only perpetuates one form of discrimination over another——-namely that of discriminating against those of us whom identify as heterosexual and whom expect a certain level of moral decency with respect to the gender we identify with.
What’s going to be next——-Are we going to start forcing people to become just one gender in the future?!——-Do we really think this is the right thing to do?!
I strongly disagree and I urgently implore anyone with enough common decency and respect for modesty to put a stop to this insouciant attempt to degrade the human species to nothing more than a perverted collective of “non-threatening” yet equally “threatening” individuals, whom do not respect another person’s desire for their own privacy to be rightfully protected by a properly placed category.
