Today, HRC released a new trailer for the ABC Family documentary series Becoming Us.
From Ryan Seacrest Productions comes ABC Family’s new docu-series “Becoming Us.” The series centers on a teenager named Ben who is learning to live with his dad becoming a woman. The series will follow Ben, his family and his friends as they support one another through this unexpected journey and navigate their new world with Charlie now living as Carly.
The visibility of transgender people has grown exponentially in the last year. Through magazines, hit television shows, reality series, books and films, the stories and lives of the transgender community are being brought into homes across the nation.
A recent national HRC survey revealed that 22 percent of likely voters personally know or work with someone who is transgender, and, of that group, two-thirds expressed favorable feelings toward them. That’s up from 17 percent who said they knew a transgender person just a year ago.
The data provides powerful empirical evidence that the increase in the visibility of transgender people in our workplaces, our homes, in our popular culture — including Jenner and the Emmy-nominated actress Laverne Cox and New York Times bestselling writer Janet Mock — has helped propel this growing support.
