San Diego LGBT musician creating video for LGBT rights beyond marriage equality

Rob Lord

SAN DIEGO, Rob Lord, San Diego-based, LGBT singer-songwriter, is producing a music video whose aim is to bring all types of LGBT citizens and their allies together. The goal is to raise awareness about LGBT rights beyond the Marriage Equality movement.  Music for the video is from a song he wrote titled “Together Now.”  It’s a gender-neutral wedding song so it can relate to any couple of any sexual-orientation. The project is a time-sensitive, crowd funding campaign with the same title.  It won’t be released until May.

The project deadline is Monday, April 27 so the music video can enter production and be ready on June 1st to celebrate an historic Pride Month. There’s a casting opportunity for supporters to be featured in the song’s official video who back the project at a certain level and supply an image of themselves. Lord says. “Ideally, I’d like as much diversity as possible represented in this video.” Many exciting and meaningful rewards are offered to project backers. Some rewards are limited, so those who wish to participate should act quickly by going to this link. Or, they can visit Kickstarter.com and do a search for Rob Lord.

Currently, numerous big corporations are condemning the Religious Freedom law in Indiana. Lord strongly advocates the need to advance the nation’s conversation beyond Marriage Equality and Religious Freedom toward ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act). He urges it to be rapidly passed ASAP to protect LGBT citizens across the country. “There are 30 remaining States where it’s still legal to deny employment and housing opportunities to tax-paying LGBT citizens, “ says Lord. “In some states where you can legally marry a same-sex partner, you could also be legally fired or evicted the next day if a boss or landlord doesn’t approve.”

Lord continues, “After a favorable LGBT SCOTUS decision in June, many LGBT couples in certain states may feel compelled to keep their federally recognized marriage a secret. Being honest and sharing one of the happiest occasions in one’s life could actually result in the unthinkable sudden loss of income and/or housing.”

Currently, 21 countries recognize full marriage equality with many others on the horizon. There are 1,138 benefits LGBT married couples will enjoy once same-sex marriage is federally recognized in the US.
