Out & Equal Workplace Advocates to honor ‘Transparent’ at Momentum Gala March 26 in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO Out & Equal Workplace Advocates, the world’s largest nonprofit dedicated to achieving workplace equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees,  honors the Golden Globe-winning television show, “Transparent,” at its 8th annual fundraising gala, Momentum. Hosted by comedian Kate Clinton, Momentum is Out & Equal’s annual leadership celebration and gala dinner that features entertainment, fundraising auction, a cocktail reception and inspirational speakers. The event takes place Thurs., March 26 at San Francisco’s Hotel Nikko.

Momentum also includes a pre-reception panel discussion on creating a professional LGBT and Allies (LGBTA) brand. Successful LGBTA leaders will share their experiences with building and leveraging their professional brands for career growth and to add value to the workplace.

Momentum concludes a three-day Executive Forum conference which convenes dozens of corporate executives, business and community leaders, individuals and allies to help build leadership skills, strengthen business connections and discuss how to achieve LGBT equality and advancement in the workplace.

As part of Momentum 2015, Out & Equal honors “Transparent” for both its groundbreaking portrayal of the transgender community and for hiring transgender cast and crew members to best present the transgender experience.

“Transparent” co-star, Amy Landecker, who plays leading character Sarah Pfefferman, will accept the award on the show’s behalf.

“Momentum comes at a crucial point for the LGBT equality movement: the Supreme Court is expected to make a definitive ruling on marriage equality in June, yet workplace equality continues to lag behind. Employees can still be legally fired in 29 states for who we are and who we love,” said Selisse Berry, founder and chief executive officer of Out & Equal. “Although there’s still much work to be done when it comes to LGBT equality, ‘Transparent’ is breaking new ground. The show has hired 20 transgender people for its cast and crew and more than 60 transgender actors as extras, while raising the community’s visibility and boldly portraying issues faced by transgender people every day.”

Amazon Studios’ “Transparent” is a Golden Globe-winning television show that follows the lives of the Pfefferman family upon learning that patriarch Mort (Jeffrey Tambor) is transgender. At this year’s Golden Globe Awards, “Transparent” was named Best Television Series in a Musical or Comedy, while co-star Jeffrey Tambor won the award for Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy. As one of the first television shows to spotlight transgender issues, “Transparent” is praised for its portrayal of the transgender community.

“I’m deeply honored to accept this award on behalf of ‘Transparent,’ a show that continually makes me proud,” said co-star Amy Landecker. “Out & Equal’s work toward workplace equality for members of the transgender community is vital and an important step toward full equality for all members of the LGBT community.”
