The Washington Blade reports that Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) announced that he will reintroduce the Employment Non-Discrimination Act for the 112th Congress after he has finished lining up additional co-sponsors of the bill.
Frank explained that the upcoming introduction of the bill will help inform lawmakers and the public alike. However, he also expressed some doubts about the bill’s progress in light of Republican control of the House.
The original bill, introduced in the 111th Congress, would prohibit job discrimination against LGBT individuals under most circumstances.
LGBT advocacy groups including the Human Rights Campaign, the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force and the National Center for Lesbian Rights, have applauded Frank for his intention to reintroduce the anti-discrimination legislation.
