Chris Hemsworth, the 27-year-old Australian actor starring in the latest Marvel comic adaptation, went out of his way to bulk up in preparation for a stint as the Norse mythology-inspired action hero Thor.
Unexpectedly, he went a little too far: upon trying on his costume immediately before shooting was due to commence, Hemsworth found the restrictive long-sleeve design so tight that it affected his circulation.
Kenneth Branagh, the director of the film, gently urged Hemsworth to “pull it back just a little bit.” The costume was also altered – as was Hemsworth’s diet and exercise regimen.
The new Thor film will join Captain America as a summer superhero release. And fans can look forward to a veritable extravaganza for 2012 with The Avengers – a composite film featuring Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and the Hulk.
