In a follow up to our Behind the Scenes news story about Canvass for a Cause (CFAC), LGBT Weekly has gotten an exclusive story on what the organization expects from the mega-retailer in the following weeks, according to reps canvassing today outside a Target store in Poway.

Reps for CFAC, who identified themselves as volunteers for the organization, told LGBT Weekly that Target Corp. issued a temporary restraining order against the pro-LGBT group weeks prior to today’s lawsuit proceedings.

CFAC expects an update in “two weeks” on whether or not the organization will have rights to petition outside Target stores, according to reps for the group.

Assistant Canvass Director for CFAC said that court documents filed on behalf of Target asked for a ruling in favor of removing the pro-gay group from Target locations as the retailer did not want to be affiliated with gay groups.

When asked why the group has targeted this particular Poway Target store, reps responded they seek neighborhoods and cities where voter data suggests low support for gay marriage.

  1. im a previous employee and to be honest the last part is a lie. they seek areas in which they can bring in the most money. that’s why they canvass in encinitas, fashion valley, and poway.
