“The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” is hitting the big time – and bringing with it a wild new look.
The 2011 Broadway musical version of the 1994 film is an extravaganza of big headpieces, glitter, confetti, neon lighting and flamboyant entertainment. The Faster Times reports that the new “Priscilla,” while keeping the film’s premise in tact, transforms a thoughtful and symbolic tale of drag performers striving for glamour in the desert into a celebration of stage excess.
Produced by Bette Midler and featuring a stage bursting with “top tier talent,” expensive sets, Oscar-worthy costumes and 27 performers at their peak, the show is bound to be a spectacle. The movie’s set-list of songs has been expanded to 26 different numbers, most of which are irresistibly recognizable pop tunes combining 1970’s disco hits with more diverse selections like songs by Madonna, Elvis and even John Denver.
“Priscilla Queen of the Desert: The Musical” will run at the Palace Theater in New York City. Tickets are $50.00-$125.00.
