Ryan Murphy’s ridiculous anthology series is back, this time with his stars working at a side show in 1950s rural Florida. There are little people, a guy with lobster hands, a chanteuse and Siamese twins. There’s also a murderous clown. It’s violent, disgusting, campy and occasionally sublime. Jessica Lange is again the star, this time as a Marlene Dietrich wannabe, a German singer who wants to make the show bigger than it should be. Sarah Paulsen is the two-headed woman; one is an uptight cranky and the other is slutty dreamer. Kathy Bates is the bearded lady. Angela Bassett, Evan Peters and Emma Roberts also return. The show is fun, but it’s also weirdly misogynistic and often incoherent. But it can be very fun.
