Harvey Milk’s American Diner releases statement on closure

Following the sudden closure of Harvey Milk’s American Diner last Thursday, information about the future of the restaurant has been confined to speculation on Facebook. Originally the owners of the Diner had indicated that the restaurant would be closed for three days. Today the owners released a statement on the changes that are occurring at the restaurant.

Statement follows:

To our friends in the San Diego Community: We understand that the recent changes at Harvey Milk’s American Diner have been a challenge for many, including our beloved staff. We’re very sorry. We are also sorry if your individual concerns have not been addressed directly or in a timely manner. We are working hard to address each and every person affected by the recent changes at Harvey Milk’s American Diner. Please contact Frank Lechner via email: reorganization@harveymilksamericandiner.com and we will respond to you directly and as quickly as possible.
We hope to have a public update soon and when we do, we will share that here.
Thank you for your support and patience and please allow us to address your concerns directly.
The Harvey Milk Foundation DID NOT at any time have any control in our business. They were simply a beneficiary.
We are contacting all of our staff members whose checks did not clear to come into the restaurant and get cash.  There are only a  few that had their checks returned and they are being made whole.

  1. Doesn’t address the issue of unpaid wages owed to employees, reported bounced checks to employees, and no notice of employees of the sudden closure.

Don’t think Harvey would be so proud of this.

  2. This Facebook posting pf 7 PM, 10.16.2014 from the former head pastry chef at Harvey Milk’s [Ray Vizcaino ] seems to contradict some statements and assertions made here:

“Sorry to burst your bubble but as the former pastry chef I haven’t gotten paid. They just paid back the checks that bounced and have not been paid our “final” paycheck. I just asked them when should I be getting my final check and all I was told is that they are working on it and they’ll let us know when they will have our money. So stating that he has paid all the employees is complete false and BS.”

  3. I really loved going to Harvey Milk’s American Dinner. The food was awesome and the service was great. Sorry that this business is having troubles.

An option is to make it an employee owned business.

  4. Anyone noticed the absence of “Big Mike” Someday the idiots in this city will figure out what he is all about. Birthday fundraisers – his $20k colon etc etc
