A fourth incident of vandalism has occurred to the Metropolitan Community Church in San Diego when someone used a marker on a window to print out seemingly random words.
The graffiti was erased before Sunday services and a photo of it was sent to a San Diego Police officer who has collected the images of previous vandalism. Aug. 29, a vandal spray painted the words “fags” and “queers,” in several locations and this was painted over before services.
The words “audit this your name your game” were printed with a marker on a window last week. The third incident occurred Sept. 3 when someone egged the rainbow pride flag. The first incident happened in July when someone ripped the pride flag from the roof, leaving only a flag boundary.
Senior Pastor Dan Koeshall spoke on the topic of “Don’t Take Anything Personally” Aug. 31 which he selected before any vandalism occurred. Council President Todd Gloria also visited the church that day in support.
“God knew we would be tested by the hateful things written upon our walls, but before it even actually happened, He had a plan to remind us through Scriptures Pastor Dan selected in advance, that we are to live in harmony with one another,” wrote Koeshall in the MCC newsletter.
“So together as a church, we brush ourselves off, apply a new coat of paint and continue to let our light shine living out our mission of bringing people closer to God and another,” wrote Koeshall.
The church has filed hate crime reports with San Diego Police about the incidents. MCC is located at 2633 Denver St. and purchased the building in 2009.
