FHCSD’s ¡Vive Tu Vida! Get Up! Get Moving! event – Aug. 16

SAN DIEGO – Saturday, Aug. 16, Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) will present its eighth annual family health and fitness fair ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® This event promotes Hispanic family physical activity and good nutrition for better health and wellness for all members of the community. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Chicano Park in the community of Barrio Logan, between National Avenue and Logan Avenue, in San Diego, from 9 a.m to 1 pm.

According to Fran Butler-Cohen, CEO of Family Health Centers of San Diego, “¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® reminds us that people of all ages and sizes can have fun incorporating physical activity into their daily lives. Dance, learn a new activity, or walk with family and friends. There are many fun ways to put yourself on the path to better health.”

¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® demonstrates the power of culture, family, and community to promote better health for all. The San Diego event will feature FREE health information and screenings including cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, kidney, dental, and vision. There will also be activities for the whole family including tennis clinics provided by the U.S. Tennis Association, soccer clinics with the San Diego Sockers, Zumba and aerobics, and bounce houses for kids. Participants will also have the chance to win prizes and giveaways, enjoy healthy snacks, listen to live music, and much more!

“The support we receive from Newman’s Own Foundation and the Healthy Americas Foundation allows us to serve 25,000 people at community family health events this year, like the one this weekend in San Diego,” said Dr. Jane L. Delgado, president and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, the nation’s leading Hispanic health advocacy group, and author of The Latina Guide to Health and the Buena Salud® Guide book series.

All participants of ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® San Diego will be eligible to register for the National Alliance for Hispanic Health’s Buena Salud® Club. This free membership club is designed to promote healthy lifestyles by providing year-round reliable and confidential health information and provider referrals.
