Gilbert Castellanos and The Park West Ensemble
Trumpeter and composer Gilbert Castellanos has energized the San Diego jazz scene since the 90’s, and promises to become as important to the evolution of jazz music as the legends who have influenced him such as Lee Morgan, Dizzy Gillespie, and Freddie Hubbard. An immense talent both at the technical level and as an interpretive artist, he is equally comfortable with Latin, contemporary and classical forms of jazz, and imparts an intelligence and spirit to his music that routinely delights and touches audiences. Born of a musical family in Guadalajara, Mexico, Castellanos carries on the musical heritage of his father, after whom his is named, a well-known leader of the 1960’s Mexican group Gil Castellanos y Su Copacabana. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, and then Cal Arts in Los Angeles.

LGBT @ Indigo
Fashion has a local focus this summer! Hillcrest’s Salon Indigo is planning a fundraiser called LGBT @ Indigo in support of The Center’s Hillcrest Youth Center. The event will include models sporting the latest in summer hair fashions tasting stations from Hillcrest restaurants, summer-inspired cocktails, raffle prizes for spa and beauty treatments and so much more! The money raised will fund activities for the Hillcrest youth center (ages 14-18) including creative and performing arts workshops, support and discussion groups, guest speakers and social events like Rainbow Prom.

Summer International Organ Festival 2014
This Monday brings a special performance by a trio of organists who create a Bridge to the Next 100 Years of excellent organ music: Thomas Mellan, Carol Williams and Frederick Swann. Thomas Mellan has been named the outstanding music undergraduate at the University of Southern California while still in his freshmen year. He last performed on the Organ Pavilion stage in 2011 as one of that year’s outstanding young organists in San Diego. Carol Williams as San Diego Civic Organist is a past master of audiences and performances on the Spreckels stage. Frederick Swann is revered as past president of the American Guild of Organists, leader of music at New York City’s famous Riverside Church, and in later years at the Crystal Cathedral in Orange County. This is a substitution program for Stewart Wayne Foster, who regrets the need to bow out of this scheduled performance.

Amos Lee: Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song Tour
Amos Lee is stopping at Humphreys during the second leg of his tour in support of his latest album, Mountains Of Sorrow, Rivers Of Song. Amos Lee took a different path for the recording of his fifth album and worked in a new city with a new producer, and for the first time, he brought his touring band into the studio with him. The twelve songs that resulted, the follow-up to 2011’s chart-topping Mission Bell, bring Amos into new sonic territory, while retaining the trenchant impact of the scenes, characters, and stories in his writing.

Artic Monkeys
English indie rock band Arctic Monkeys formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield. The band consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jamie Cook (lead guitar, backing vocals), Nick O’Malley (bass, backing vocals), and Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals). The band’s debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, was the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, surpassing Elastica’s self-titled album. The band has won seven Brit Awards – winning both Best British Group and Best British Album three times, and has twice been nominated for Grammy Awards.
