Popular San Diego civic leader, Bruce M. Abrams (attorney and City commissioner), will be celebrating another birthday Friday, July 25 and some of his friends will be hosting a birthday bash at the award-winning Vietnamese cuisine restaurant Saigon on Fifth, 3900 Fifth Ave. in San Diego, and you are all invited.
It’s a party fundraiser in lieu of gifts to benefit the hundreds of immigrant children now here in San Diego.
So, bring the following items: baby wipes, formula, baby bottles, food (plastic containers), diapers (all sizes), anti-bacterial lotion (dispensers), children’s coloring books, crayons, soft toys for small children, playing cards, puzzles, small towels, small soaps and back packs. Or, you can bring a check made out to Border Angels.
Your birthday hosts will be City Council President Todd Gloria, the Imperial Court de San Diego (who will be donating $2,000), Rabbi Laurie Coskey, Larry Baza, Carolina Ramos, the law firm of Abrams/Deeley, Hong Luu/Saigon on Fifth and the Mayor’s LGBT Advisory Board.

Palm Springs
This past July Fourth weekend Big Mike and I travelled to Palm Springs as I was honored to be a special guest at a reception hosted by Live Magazine as their recent “cover boy” and cover story: “Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez the man behind the Harvey Milk stamp, street and ship.”
We were guests of the beautiful Skylark Hotel in Palm Springs (great pool), and then were off to the super popular, award-winning original Wang’s in the Desert, at 424 South Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, which was recently voted “Best Pan-Asian Cuisine in the Desert.”
I had a great dinner and a great time at the reception and everyone was really welcoming and nice. I gave a short speech about the Harvey Milk stamp and Milk Navy vessel campaign. Many of my friends, who have houses in Palm Springs, showed up and I even ran into award-winning writer Tom Blair, who told me he may be writing a book about his decades being a columnist, editor etc. around San Diego society and politics. Now this will be a must-read for sure.
I have been coming to Palm Springs since the 1970s and it has become its own gay mecca with a gay mayor and congressman.

“Hillcrest Community Mural” unveiling at Wells Fargo Bank
Aug. 15, Wells Fargo Bank will be unveiling a “Community Mural” at their Hillcrest branch. Such beautiful community murals have been unveiled in the Castro, West Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Chelsea and now Hillcrest. Global gay activist Stuart Milk will be the special guest of honor … more information coming.
Harvey Milk was not the only pioneer in the gay rights movement. There are many tributes already in Harvey’s name. Naming a ship after Harvey just because he was in the Navy is a tribute not needed,along with naming the airport in San Francisco. It would be nice to see tributes to Mayor Moscone by gays that seem to have forgotten that it was his administration that gave the gay rights movement, movement 2 years before Harvey was elected. In fact, Moscone’s first appointment was Harvey Milk to the Board of Permits. It would be nice to find another worthy gay pioneer other then Harvey to honor.
In Chicago tonight,The National Gay & Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame will inducted Mayor Moscone as a “Straight Ally”.
