The American Family Association (AFA) has doubled down on their initial outrage after the announcement that the Harvey Milk commemorative stamp would be released May 22. In an April 22 press release, Tim Wildmon, the president of the nationally recognized hate group wrote at the time that: “Milk used his charm and power to prey on young boys with emotional problems and drug addiction. He is the last person we should be featuring on a stamp. Furthermore, the radical homosexual lobby will undoubtedly encourage businesses to use these stamps—all in the name of inclusiveness, political correctness and unity. Whatever you think about diversity, no one thinks diversity ought to include pedophilia. This is not diversity; this is perversity.”
However, when Wildmon and his unique gang of family values stalwarts got wind of an editorial in our very own LGBT Weekly May 8, penned by none other than Nicole Murray Ramirez, the AFA knew something more had to be done. In his essay, Ramirez outlined the seven-year journey he took to get the U.S. government to approve the issuing of a stamp with Harvey Milk’s image on it. “I well remember when Stuart called me over a year ago to tell me that the U.S. Postal Service had called the Milk family to let them know it was going to happen. We both got very emotional and were overjoyed and I was touched when Stuart Milk thanked me and the Imperial Courts for our leadership on this campaign.”
After personally attacking Ramirez – “…a result of seven years of lobbying by a self-described drag queen (a biological man with implanted breasts) and former transsexual prostitute Nicole Murray Ramirez of San Diego…” – the press release again resorts to attacking Milk (using the same go-to source Randy Shilts, the author of The Mayor of Castro Street, who, ironically, contracted the disease from unprotected gay sex) as a drug-addled, child predator before advising their audience of the appropriate response:
“Unfortunately, the deed is done. The United States Postal Service honored a child predator at the whim of a drag queen…Furthermore, the radical homosexual lobby will undoubtedly encourage businesses to use these stamps – all in the name of inclusiveness, political correctness and diversity. This is not diversity; this is perversity. What you can do…1. Refuse to accept the Harvey Milk stamp if offered by your local post office. Instead, ask for a stamp of the United States flag…2. Refuse to accept mail at your home or business if it is postmarked with the Harvey Milk stamp. Simply write ‘Return to Sender” on the envelope and tell your postman you won’t accept it.”
Unless, possibly, if it’s marked by the words ‘donation enclosed.’
