San Diego firefighters, lifeguards to endorse Sarah Boot for City Council

SAN DIEGO – Today, San Diego City Firefighters and lifeguards will endorse former federal prosecutor and City Council candidate Sarah Boot, citing Boot’s commitment to public safety and experience as a community advocate.  Both organizations, which represent hundreds of the city’s public safety employees, declined to endorse Councilmember Lorie Zapf, who is running against Boot in District 2.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to receive these important endorsements from San Diego’s firefighters and lifeguards,” Boot said. “The residents of District 2 know I’m a strong advocate for public safety and our beaches, and I’m very grateful for the recognition from these vital organizations.”

James Gartland, president and CEO of the San Diego Association of Lifeguards, wrote in a letter to Boot: “We appreciate your dedication to enhancing public safety at our beaches and bays, and to protecting residents and visitors. Your background and experience as a federal prosecutor demonstrates your experience in protecting our community and makes you uniquely qualified to serve on the City Council.”

Frank De Clercq, president of San Diego City Firefighters, added: “We appreciate your passion and unwavering commitment to keeping San Diego safe. Thank you for taking a leadership role when it comes to the safety of all firefighters and the citizens they serve in the City of San Diego.”
