SAN DIEGO – Saturday, May 3, the San Diego Public Library Foundation’s Library Shop at the San Diego Central Library @ Joan Λ Irwin Jacobs Common will participate in California Bookstore Day. The first-ever California Bookstore Day (CBD) promises to delight book lovers of all ages and interests and encourage them to browse and buy from their favorite independent bookstore.
Patrons will be able to peruse the Library Shop’s curated selection of exclusive, CBD-only books and book-related items from authors such as George Saunders, Don DeLillo, Lemony Snicket, Michael Pollan and many others. These exclusive selections are not available anywhere else on any other day, which makes it a perfect opportunity to purchase a literary-themed gift for Mother’s Day and support a great cause – the San Diego Public Library system.
“The Library Shop has been a well-kept secret for unique gifts,” says Erin Zlotnik, manager, Library Shop. “We carefully curate what we offer our customers, who find our collections perfect for any gift giving occasion, while at the same time, supporting a good cause – the San Diego Public Library System.”
In addition to the special CBD merchandise, the Library Shop will hold a one-day-only book sale, with all books in the store 25 percent off. Staff from the Library Shop, along with library representatives, will hold a free Summer Reading Book Recommendation session at 10:30 a.m., where patrons will enjoy complimentary coffee and refreshments. The 10:30 a.m. event also serves as the official kick-off to the Library Shop’s Book Club. The club’s first selection, Kristopher Jansma’s “The Unchangeable Spots of Leopards,” will be presented at this session and the book will be on display for purchase in the shop. The Library Shop Book Club will meet quarterly and featured authors will attend or Skype in to the meetings for engaging discussions with club members.
Additionally, book-themed crafts for kids and live music performances will be held on the library’s patio and will round out the festive literary CBD celebration. The Library Shop is one of 100 independent bookstores across the state participating in the first-ever California Bookstore Day.
