SAN DIEGO – Since its FDA approval for use in HIV prevention in July 2012, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is quickly becoming a new way to prevent HIV infection. But what is PrEP? How does it work? And how can you access it?
Monday, April 14, at 6 p.m., the UC San Diego AntiViral Research Center (AVRC) hosts PrEP Talk, a free community education forum about HIV risk, HIV testing, PrEP, and resources for accessing PrEP.
Researchers from UC San Diego will talk about HIV risk, HIV testing options, what PrEP is, and how PrEP can be used for HIV prevention. A representative from Gilead, the makers of the only FDA-approved HIV prevention pill, will share information about how to access PrEP through the company’s patient assistant program.

PrEP Talk is a free event Monday, April 14, from 6-8:30 p.m. at The San Diego LGBT Community Center (3909 Centre Street, San Diego, CA 92103). Dinner is available for those who register in advance.
