SAN DIEGO, Calif. – EXUSMED™, a corporation offering affordable mobile health care solutions for both patients and providers announced today that they have signed a partnership agreement with San Diego-based health care information technology company Vivace Health Solutions, Inc.
Vivace Health Solutions offers a secured cloud-based, HIPAA-compliant electronic medical record system integrated with artificial intelligence that helps doctors make more informed decisions while caring for patients. Vivace Health Solutions has built its EMR on top of sophisticated, evidence-based analytics that mine patient data in real-time that will provide physicians with clinical decision support through EXUSMED’s NexusMD program. Vivace Health Solutions’ EMR platform also incorporates the use of wireless monitoring devices for home monitoring of chronic conditions so patients can feel safe and stay connected to their doctor’s office 24/7. Vivace’s analytic engine generates very sensitive, specific and actionable alerts by taking into account the entire clinical picture of the patient, allowing providers to make sound healthcare decisions
Vivace Health Solutions CEO, Dr. Tom Velez founded Computer Technology Associates (CTA), Vivace Health Solutions’ parent company, in 1979, to focus on engineering and technology challenges of national significance. As CEO of CTA, Velez led efforts in the use of advanced software and hardware technologies toward the development of significant aerospace systems used in support of national defense and intelligence operations. CTA specialized in the use of “intelligent agents”, software that exhibited behavior of reasoning, knowledge capture, planning, learning, control and communications used in the management of autonomous systems such as surveillance satellites and related command, control and intelligence data fusion systems.
Vivace Health Solutions is Velez’s most recent venture that is designed to leverage this rich artificial intelligence experience in the health care sector. Velez believes that artificial intelligence can improve both the cost and quality of health care by providing clinicians with powerful learning tools that can effectively deal with the vast amounts of available clinical raw data and dynamically emerging evidence base to help clinicians deliver the best care possible whenever and wherever needed.
“Leveraging complex technologies to provide patients of all ages and cultures immediate access to quality health care is a passion of mine,” said Dr. Velez. “I believe EXUSMED is poised to deliver this service and revolutionize the way patients receive care and Vivace Health Products’ partnership with EXUSMED is a perfect fit.”
Dr. Joy Hardison, chief medical officer at Vivace Health Solutions said, “EXUSMED’s strategy to use telemedicine as a way to extend care to patients in remote areas who would otherwise have limited access to physicians is a noble goal.”
Dr. Hardison attended medical school at Mayo Clinic where she was able to study medicine in a very patient-centric environment. The motto, “the needs of the patient come first” is truly the guiding principle of Mayo Clinic’s culture. This culture of medicine is one that Hardison believes in and continues to work to achieve in her own clinical practice as well as through innovation in her role as chief medical officer at Vivace Health Solutions.
Before joining Vivace Health Solutions, Hardison practiced emergency medicine in San Diego as an attending physician at Kaiser Permanente, a health care organization that prides itself on delivering quality health services while containing costs.
Dr. Velez and his team at Vivace Health Solutions will bring a new and unique level of expertise to EXUSMED,” said A. Latham Staples, EXUSMED president and CEO. “Vivace Health Solutions brings decades of IT experience in health care to the table and this partnership will bring huge benefits to EXUSMED in the provision of patient services and management of patient records.”
A pilot program, launching in 2014 will have more than 800 participating physicians providing care to approximately 1,500 patients throughout Southern California. EXUSMED’s programs, available to consumers in the summer of 2014 will provide improved outpatient continuity-of-care with the patient’s own health care provider through on-demand, real-time mobile health care technology encounters. This will allow for more convenient and flexible care, decreasing waiting room times and accelerating diagnosis and treatment.
